Thanuir, I agree it looks unusual. On the internet, I would expect space-hyphen-hyphen-space, like:

In the article you cite, the section "Approximating the em-dash with two or three hyphens" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D...three_hyphens)
it seems to me they are saying no spaces--like this--would be normal (that two hyphens directly replace an em dash). That doesn't look right to me.
One can also copy-paste the correct dashes, at least on a computer: — –

I know at times you must feel very alone with your problems and difficulties. But I want to say how impressed I am with what you stand for and the effort you are making; and I say this not just for myself, but for men and women everywhere.
