I wonder what a diet tastes like...

You'll have to eat one to find out.

we don't eat diets in my country. We just eat the food that diets prescribe...

does a balanced diet????

"Diet" can be short for "foods that a diet prescribes". Is this the confusion?

a lot of nonsense is heard in English...

yes, but more nonsense is heard in English since it is spoken by more people who don't get it and confuse concepts such as here...
"diet" comes from Latin "diaeta" which means a "daily routine". A routine is in no way comestible...

words derive mainly because their meaning is misunderstood by uneducated people.

>my willingness to try to help you understand what it means.
I don't need you for that, I have dictionaries and encyclopedias, thank you...

>If you just want to discuss your dissatisfaction with the English language or explain your points of view about how languages have evovled, then I don't think this is the place to do it. There are likely forums on the web that deal with this kind of discussion.
