Это значит то же самое как #3671980 или надо читать предложение как, например, «Он читает газету перед завтраком, а не позже»?

Это то же самое, оба предложения равнозначны и естественны для меня. Какой-то дополнительный акцент можно сделать интонацией.

Поддерживаю. Произнесённые с нейтральной интонацией, эти два предложения практически совершенно одинаковы.
