This quotation is too long to be translated into Russian entirely. The problem is that a single post at Tatoeba is limited to 1500 symbols that are insufficient to hold the Russian translation of this quote.
According to the above, we decided to split it into two parts. The second part starts at "The business of the journalist..." (Le boulot du journaliste...) and resides here:

Our suggestion is to split English original and other translations into two parts, too, for consistency sake.

@Marafon

I understand your concern and agree on the principle, however, I can't just stick my translation to your Russian sentence, since I don't speak Russian myself. I'll have to wait for the English first...

I agree with you. So let's wait for Scott's decision.

Please take a decision without me. I don't have much time for Tatoeba right now. I think it's fine to split it in two parts.

@Scoot

alors coupe et je couperai...

@sacredceltic
Tamy a trouvé une bonne solution. Je cite:
> To keep the quote together, I decided not to shorten it
> and to repeat the last part ("The business of the journalist..." )

This sentence was initially added as a translation of sentence #693520There is no such thing, at this stage of the world’s history in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dare write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my papers, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone. The business of the journalist is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes..
