hey. can you please check whether this sentence means "vegetarian" or "vegan" and unlink the wrongly linked sentence? thank you.

It is not needed, because the translations are in the following sequence:
Tom is a vegetarian. => jan Ton li moku e kasi taso. => Tom follows a strict vegan diet.
It's OK.

but I don't get it. can you explain the structure of the toki pona sentence to me? to me, "tom is a vegetarian" means something completely and entirely different than "tom follows a strict vegan diet". they're about as similar to me as "tom beat up my sister" and "tom brutally murdered my sister".

+1

Toki Pona is an extremely context-sensitive language, because it has only 120 words.
My Toki Pona sentence denotes: "Tom eats only plants".

I see. interesting.
still, I would suggest we unlink the "tom is a vegetarian" sentence, because it would clear up the wrong indirect links between the languages where vegetarian and vegan are clearly distinct lexemes, and also because I think that even if toki pona is much more fuzzy in its conceptualization of the world, "only eating plants" corresponds much more to veganism than vegetarianism.
what do you think about it?

the instances you mentioned are all grammatical. vegetarianism and veganism (and the differences between them), however, may bear a certain cultural relevance to people's ethics or identities. because of this, I am trying to emphasize the difference between the two, which some people linking sentences here do not seem to understand. I also never said anything about this being an issue concerning constructed languages.
because I was unsure, I asked Eŭgeno, who is competent in toki pona, to explain the situation to me and tell me if he thinks unlinking the vegetarian sentence, which does not correspond to "eating only plants", would be alright. he said yes, so that's what I'm going to do. I also do this assuming that it would be possible to construct a sentence like "tom does not eat animals" in toki pona, which would correspond much more closely to the definition of vegetarianism.
..whew, he keeps deleting his comments, doesn't he?
