ijo seme -> seme
I'd still suggest:
ijo seme -> seme
I can read "mi seme?" as "I?", or "Me?", or "I, what?"...
I know that because Toki Pona does not have the verb "to be", I can also read "mi seme?" as "What am I?", but "mi ijo seme?" would not be ambiguous, know what I mean?
sina lukin e jan seme? / sina lukin e soweli seme? / sina lukin e waso seme? / sina lukin e pipi seme?
Why not: sina lukin e ijo seme? (?)
Not sure I understand. I agree that "mi seme?" is ambiguous (it could mean "what am I doing?"), but I can't read "me, what?" out of it without putting a comma between "mi" and "seme". But I would find it more idiomatic to use "anu" instead: "mi anu seme?"
I also don't see how "ijo seme" is of help. If you use "ijo seme" for "what thing" (again, this would usually be simply "seme"), you still could misread "mi ijo seme?" as "mi, ijo seme?"/"mi anu ijo seme?"
I'm sorry if I'm missing a point here.
> Why not: sina lukin e ijo seme? (?)
As I see it, "ijo" is omitted when combined with "seme", "ni" or "ale".
ijo seme -> seme
ijo ni -> ni
ijo ale -> ale
(In Pu, "ijo ala" remains "ijo ala", whereas others use "ala" also for "ijo ala".)
In Pu, we can see "pi ijo ale", though. So apparently, the omission of "ijo" doesn't occur in combination with "pi".
So, I can't say "why", but just "how" it is "seme" instead of "ijo seme".
This looks like Quantum Physics. You don't have to understand why, you have to accept it as it is.
Partially yes, it is as it is, because Pu doesn't go too much into details and leaves much to infer to the reader, in my opinion.
But since "seme" means "what" and "ijo seme" wouldn't remove ambiguity, "mi seme?" should still remain the best option, I thought.
Who am I? ➜ mi jan seme?
What am I? ➜ mi seme?
I give up.
Don't! :(
I didn't. Finally, I accept it. :-)
pona a! mi ken ala ken pana sin e linja nimi tawa sina? (sina ken kama jo sin e ona.)
I would appreciate that.
Thank you.
