Thanks. That's helpful.

Still, for people who aren't masters at the hidden search options, it would be helpful if some things were done automatically.

Would it be possible to make the following equivalences in the Tatoeba search?

he's <=> he is
she's <=> she is
it's <=> it is
I'm <=> I am
you're <=> you are
they're <=> they are
we're <=> we are
(among others...)

It's a bit silly that searching for "I'm..." and "I am..." yields different results (or sometimes, no results for one but some for the other).

Huh?

You can't be serious, boracasli. Are you leaving us?

If Tatoeba ever becomes like Facebook, I think I'm going to cry. I won't leave, but I'll definitely cry... a few times.

Otherwise, I think the buddy system requires too much effort and would turn too many people away. There are too many intellectuals on Tatoeba, and intellectuals *hate* being held by the hand.

I do support effective documentation, though.

Something's really bad with Google lately... Anyone know a possible reason?

I find that my G-Mail has been lagging a lot over this past month, and now this is the second time that the alerts have gone astray.

The dramatic music is a nice touch though.

On an unrelated note, we now know that he DOES read all of his messages (even though he doesn't reply :-)

New Tatoeba Record:

The 2000 barrier was broken for FOUR consecutive days Sep. 21-24.

Another potentially bad idea...

How about giving contribution points for making links?

Okay, okay, there ARE major drawbacks:

- Careless linking
- Trusted users only
- "Why do we want to encourage contribution points? We're here because we want to contribute, and not because we want to be ranked high on the chart."

But... I do think people care about their contribution points, which is why the ladder exists. Some care more than others. Perhaps if you got 0.1 contribution points for linking a sentence, it would give users greater incentives to spend more time linking and less time creating new sentences.

Anyway, I warned you that this might be a bad idea, but there it is.

Somebody else's problem that likely won't be fixed... given the current daily ratio of English:Japanese contributions.

What would be really awesome is that when you submitted a sentence, you could get a warning that was something like:

"The sentence you are submitting is 93% similar to ######. Please make sure that your submission is necessary."

And not just for the mods, I hope, but for everybody.

FeuDRenais FeuDRenais September 25, 2010 September 25, 2010 at 2:24:20 PM UTC link Permalink

Random question.

Do mods get a special alert every time a new duplicate is created? Cause that would be pretty cool...

Odd. I don't think Demetrius uses g-mail, and it was broken for him as well.
