Wacky idea: Tatoeba Day
For hardcore Tatoeba fans...
Why don't we pick a day of the year (or maybe, even, a date of each month) on which we all try to contribute crazy amounts of sentences? And then we see how high we can set the single-day contribution record to, and then try to pass it on the following Tatoeba Day.
(on a separate note, this is the 666th thread... take that as you will)

That sounds like a lot of fun! I'll definitely take part in it (if my schedule allows me to). :-)
But what about the date? The day Tatoeba was started, perhaps?
We could probably vote. Or we could just do it several times a year, when there was enough momentum for it.
e.g. "Hey, it's Christmas vacation, let's have a Tatoeba Day!"
I definitely like this idea ^^ but IMO if you just have one or two Tatoeba days a year it is not that cool to try to defeat our last marks and all that (we would have probably forgotten how many sentences we added that day :P ), I'd rather have a "Tatoeba day" every month or every two months.
By the way, which day did Tatoeba start? :P

We could chose the Tatoeba Birthday as the Great Tatoeba Day, and organize a very big event with competitions in different field, such as the Best Logo, the Best Surreal Sentence, the Best Useful Script etc. and then celebrate the anniversary monthly, with what FeuDRenais proposed (a huge number of contributions), and maybe just 1 of the spin-off competitions! :D
I'm excited now!
Anyway, probably I will do a 3-Tatoeba Day in my school in January or February (I hope to do so), so in those days I will ask you to help me... with a lot of contributions ^^
If somebody has enough competences to make a new fancy logo, we would be glad to have a look at it anytime :D
Ce serait l'occasion d'enlever le mot "project" de ce logo, qui est la marque du suprémacisme anglophone qui règne et rebute bien des contributeurs...
J'avais lu la discussion à ce sujet en parcourant vite fait le wall il y a quelques temps. De mon côté, j'avais prévu de le retirer, mais à discuter, mais ce n'est pas à moi de décider.
Concernant le suprémacisme anglophone, je ne vais pas alimenter le débat.
C'est pas un débat, justement, juste un état de fait...

IMHO the logo should be translatable too.
So, any suggestion would be highly welcome :)
the new version is using html5, so the logo will be in xml (and by extension will be "translatable")
I hope it will be compatible with Opera, will it? :E
don't worry, for browser incompatible, we will generate a png from the xml, I think this kind of problem is well documented :)
a canvas ? :D is it the one displayed in Dev version ?
I didn't mean a competition for a new official logo, but for an alternative (or tribute) logo.
Something like competitions on DeviantART.com, for showing our love for Tatoeba in our field of art (drawing, music, poetry...), not for replacing Tatoeba stuff.
Another little ideas:
- the Best Background Tune for the Tatoeba Video (>music), as many of us plays some nice instruments ^^

I also like the idea of having a Tatoeba day every month :)
Perhaps we can try out... November 13th? (I'm suggesting a date before this idea goes forgotten.)
And the following day I'll publish on the blog more detailed stats of the contributions on Tatoeba day (number of contributions for each language and for each participant).

- February 9th, 2006 (if you consider it started when I started writing down the idea)
- June 18th, 2006 (if you consider it started when the first few sentences were added)
- August 18th, 2006 (if you consider it started when I first "published" the project)
November 13 is perfect for me (I think).
