I'm having trouble adding translations with Opera (10.62).
When I press "Submit translation", the wheel just spins forever and nothing happens.
It works fine from Firefox.

It seems that get_tatoeba_root_url() returns "http://tatoeba.org:/eng", and Opera doesn't like having the colon without a port number.

what about now ? :)

Any chance of getting this fixed? Switching to Firefox for anything that uses AJAX is a bit annoying.
It would work if get_tatoeba_root_url() in generic_functions.js returned "http://tatoeba.org/eng" instead of "http://tatoeba.org:/eng"
It should be fairly simple, but I could make a patch if required.

there a chance, but these week I'm following a formation, I need to prepare my trip to China where I will be a campus director, so it's a lot of stuff to deal with, so unfortunately.
But as soon as I have some free time, I will try to fix it.
For the patch, yep if you can make it, I will only take 2 seconds for me to integrate it, so it's maybe the best solution, as I have no Opera on my computers.

Then please change these lines when you get the time, and good luck with your training. :)

ok, I've done it. thanks

I cleared my cache and tried again, but I'm afraid I don't see any difference.

Oh, and here's the BESTEST DISCLAIMER EVAR!

Beware about using that site Paul, the first google hit is: 直メッ娘CLUBは悪質出会い系?
And for more broken English: http://www.engrish.com

> Beware about using that site Paul
Just in case you're being serious.
1. Well, duh.
2. I'm about 9,600km away from Japan so it's not too likely I'll be tempted.

What the?..
What is it supposed to mean?

LOL a thousand times. (does that make any sense in waseeigo? :S)

Latest message bug.
You might already know this one, but if you click a link shown in the "Latest messages" section of the home page it does not work.

yep, and I have no idea of how to fix it :s (nor time to think about it :s:s), but it's true I haven't note it down into the bugs list.

Japanese -> English translation campaign.
There are now less than 190 Japanese sentences that haven't been translated into English!
Let's see if we can bring that down to zero. :-)
http://tatoeba.org/eng/sentence...ng/indifferent

Less than 200? I'm sure you could do them single-handed, Paul. =P

> Less than 200? I'm sure you could do them single-handed, Paul. =P
Maybe I could do 10 a day. There are some that will be quite a challenge, though.

We need a better way of ensuring new entries get checked by someone. With special emphasis on entries added by new users.

Tatoeba with Ratings:
Okay, this is probably a really bad idea, but... If we wanted to experiment with what Tatoeba would be like with ratings, we could technically try and simulate it with tags. Simply leave a tag "good + #" or "bad + #" for a thumbs up/down system, or "1-10 + [some string to make it unique]" for a 1-10...
Just a thought.

No thanks - I think there are enough useless and semi-useless tags already.

What do you guys think of this idea?
1 - Atrocious
2 - Terrible
3 - Horrifying
4 - Bad
5 - Not good

+1

IMO, this kind of metadata is not fit for tags.

My idea: Tatoeba Dictionary will be opened.
In the Tatoeba Project, this dictionary will be used in translation of sentences. Because I'm using google translate as a english-turkish dictionary. But I don't translate sentences with this!
But Tatoeba Dictionary will contain only words, not sentences.
Is it a good idea?

Thank you for the link! ^^

IMHO their license is too restrictive.

For words, sure it's not the goal of tatoeba, we're focusing on sentences. I'm discussing with the guys of shtooka (those who provide us audio) as their first focus was too record words, and they're on the way to extand more the "website"/"works over the internet" part, maybe they will be the tatoeba of words ?

We have Wiktionary for this purpose, don't we?
But please have a good behaviour in Wiktionary - or you will be blocked soon and permanently as a vandal.

Wictionary is hard to edit for an average user.
It’s hard to find a balance between a computer-parsable dictionary and a easy-to-edit for an average human being. The Wiktionary is *much* *more* *complicated* than Tatoeba.
Aslo, although it’s exportable and parseable, but I haven’t seen any program that presents the exported data in a form of a bilingual dictionary.
All in all, I believe the Wiki engine is not fit for creating dictionaries.
I think we’ll run into the problem of a dictionary later:
1. Now we have some tags [verb_of_motion, Genitive] that are better fit as tags for words, not for sentences. => We need tags for words.
2. We can’t tag all the words, or force users to do it, since it’s too much work. => We need a morphology analyser.
3. Morphology data about the words need the dictionary. Wiktionary is hard to edit for an average user and rarely exported. => We need something more lightweight.
So I believe one day something like Tatoeba dictionary will emerge.
Also, there is a problem: what language edition of Wiktionary to choose? The explanations are different, but the translations in all Wiktionaries in fact duplicate each other.

I don't think you know what you said ;)

Now I don’t know if I know what I’ve said.

Cool!

You're right. Is my idea good?
1 - Terrible
2 - Bad
3 - Average
4 - Good
5 - Perfect

Haha... can one person vote multiple times?

I allow to vote multiple times to all users.

I vote 5 an infinite number of times! This idea is infinitely perfect.

And Tatoeba Project's logo is green, Tatoeba Dictionary's logo color will be selected by administrators.

By the way, there is a secret copy of Tatoeba. ;) It is blue.
