** Tatoeba update (March 28th, 2015) **

http://blog.tatoeba.org/2015/03...28th-2015.html

# Users languages

Last week we introduced the possibility for users to indicate their languages. This week, we have a page that lists the users for each language[1]. You can find it under "Members" > "Languages of members" in the menu.

# Collapsible translations

You have now the option to hide translations when there are too many. You can enable it in your settings by checking "Display a link to expand/collapse translations when there are too many translations".

When this option is on, you will see a link "Show more translations" on sentences that have more than 5 translations. Clicking on the link will display the hidden translations.

This option is turned off by default for logged in users because it still needs some improvements. The order in which translations are displayed is based on the language ISO code. It means that the displayed translations are not necessarily the ones you will be the most interested in. The plan is to display in priority translations in the languages that you have added in your profile.

Great. I'd like these pages to be linked from the list of languages (http://tatoeba.org/stats/sentences_by_language) and the profile of each user (so that you can easily find other members who speak or learn the same language).

And I'd like an exported CSV file for users' languages.

This sounds like a good idea. Maybe there can be a "See Members" button next to the languages on the page.

It could also be handy to include stats the way CK's native speaker page did. For example, a quick horizontal bar chart showing what percentage of sentences the user has added in that language. This way, users will know at a glance, what the pattern of the user's contributions is.

Bug detected! I have chosen collapsible translations option. Now when I want to link some existing translations to a sentence, these problems appear:

a) if there are a lot of indirect translations that I want to link, they are hidden everytime I make a link. So I have to click on "show xx translations more" each and every time after when I've made a link.

b) What makes things even more difficult is that the "show xx traslations more" link doesn't work after I've linked the sentence to some translation. I have to first refresh the page and then click on the link.

I think my option to hide or show the translations should be respected even if the page is loaded again when I link two sentences together. The same should go for if I send a comment to a sentence.

it may still be buggy, but the collapsible translations innovation feels like a direct gift from god right now.

would be even better if it were language-specific, though, in my opinion (i.e. collapsing translations so that one translation per language remains). still, very important step in the right direction right there. thanks a bunch.
