This sounds like a sample of logically ambiguous sentence: as if ants, like roses, get covered with aphids. In some languages this is acceptable, but I was told that in English it is not.
Being not a native speaker, I cannot judge, possibly situation is saved by statement that the roses are "mine", while the ants are not?
