What is the native tongue of the person who submitted the English version of this sentence? (For the record, we've been asked to encourage the user to reveal the languages he/she knows.) The profile indicates that the contributor is from the United Kingdom, but as a native speaker of English, I find the sentence construction rather awkward. Is it gramatically correct? Yes. Is it understandable? Yes. Nonetheless, I find it unnecessarily wordy, something I can also be from time to time, so I hope this doesn't come across as arrogantly critical. If I were to suggest some corrections, however, I would suggest the following:

So that we remember this day, I am asking everyone to plant a tree with us.

In order that we remember this day, I am asking everyone to plant a tree with us.

To make us remember this day, I am asking everyone to plant a tree with us.

Lest we never forget this day, I am asking everyone to plant a tree with us.
