Do you think very clever or smart really can be linked to a most clever?
It's OK with me to unlink them, though they basically mean the same thing.
Does anybody else have an opinion on this?
For example, Tom can be very clever but as clever as others, but he can be the most clever boy in the class. I don't think it's the same.
"A most clever" and "the most clever" aren't the same.
So, what is the difference? I tried to google it but I didn't find anything.
To me this sentence is old-fashioned. We still occasionally see this kind of thing written, though. It's the kind of thing that is useful for a foreign language student to recognize, but probably not actually use themselves.
"The most clever" means he's more clever than any other boy.
"A most clever" means he's very clever.
