But this is a question. Quite literally it means "Would you help?". It is a way to express the English word "please". Languages have their own codes for expressing politeness. You could translate the English "Please help me" word for ford, but it would sound a bit unnatural, like praying for help. There are many other ways of saying the same thing, of course. This is one of the simplest. Perhaps it is possible to drop the question mark but let it remain there, for the time being.
