The German is the source sentence, which is why it follows the punctuation used there.
My concern would rather be whether, as a native speaker, you are happy with the wording. Are you?

Yes, it does look like a question but in the German version it isn't. There the word order is a variant of a conditional sentence that leaves out "wenn"-"if" for brevity's sake.

So I suppose the first part of the sentence is a poetic-licence elliptical if-clause (if you see what I mean).

I am glad you refer to the rhythm, which is the kind of vehicle for the rhyme. The number of syllables does not figure a a poetic device here.
