I just noticed it. This is so going into my SRS, thx a lot blay_paul! never knew you're into that kinda thing ;)
How about using 新米 instead of 初心者. I think it's more 'slangy'.
I considered both, but decided that 新米 is not appropriate for this context. 新米 is more used for someone new to a position or job.
