Тут も скорее подчёркивающая частица (типа, даже если ты высокий, то всё равно труба). Её можно не переводить, а то странно получится. :-)

Мне казалось, что «и» здесь выполняет, в общем, ту же функцию.

У меня с "и" читается так, что хорошего нет и в том, чтобы быть высоким, и в том, чтобы быть каким-то иным неупомянутым.
