"pu" in Toki Pona means exactly book "Toki Pona: The Language of Good by Sonja Lang"
To say "book called “pu”" it would be "lipu Pu" or something.
I don't think that this sentence is good.

I'm absolutely sure about Toki Pona and Russian. I can easily imagine situations where it would be correct.

rus
— Тебе понравилось?
— Очень!

tok
— ni li pona mute ala mute tawa sina?
— mute!

Both of these mean something like:
— Did you like it?
— Very much!

EugeneGS,

There are no guidelines that I could find about believability being a factor of whether or not you should translate it like that. Additionally, It is a viable, accurate translation of what could be understood by a speaker. Also, I would love to play the “in stories anything can happen” card.

No one would shout "Fear!" in English. And it's unlikely that anyone would shout "Monster!" It's conceivable that they would say "A monster!" Or "Look! A monster!" Or "Look out! A monster!"

See this page:
https://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/art...ood-sentences#

However, I don't think making a policy of contributing sentence fragments to Tatoeba is a good idea, especially if it's not obvious to you which ones are likely utterances. Why not write actual sentences?

I found in a dictionary (nimi.li) that "ku" means "interacting with the book Toki Pona Dictionary (2021) by Sonja Lang"
I rarely use this word, so I haven't remembered that when wrote my comment.
So this translation is not really correct (even ignoring that the book title is written in a lowercase), I think.

"sewi" can mean "sky", but as a translation for a sentence I would expect "On the roof!" or "Above you!" more than just "Sky!"
It definitely can be interpreted like that in some dialogue, but all alone it seems more like a one of the meanings of the word, but not the sentence.

I don't know if there is a need to change the Toki Pona sentence, as it is a translation for "Water!" (#10733816).
I can change it into "ni li telo!" ("That's water!") or "mi wile e telo!" ("I want water!" or "I want a drink!"), but that would not match the original sentence.

This sentence started out as:

many/very/quantity!

then was changed to:

many!

and finally was changed to:

Many!

While at every stage, a problem was removed (the use of multiple options, bad capitalization), the final result is not a good sentence, or even a good sentence fragment. It's possible to imagine a question to which "Many!" is a decent response, but that doesn't make it a good Tatoeba sentence. Rather than trying to figure out the bare minimum for acceptability, please aim higher. Please try to write solid, natural, self-contained sentences that won't make people argue about whether they should be removed.

Man, i’m just translating an existing sentence as best I can while still providing unique information. (It’s no good to have five translations of a sentence if they all are “Very!”). I can delete my sentence, but It’s not like I was trying to just make a bunch of crap sentences. Actually, I viewed my role as trying to translate the most accurately I can other existing sentences and show people every plausible understanding of the sentence. Now I’m trying to care about more than accuracy and understanding, but instead about proper and natural translations.

@Lake I think the concern is that translations should be natural, self-contained sentences in their own language in order to preserve the quality of the dataset of each language.

It seems like many people use the data on this site for language-learning, and sentences/exclamations that are very unlikely in English such as "Many!", "Quantity!" or "Liquid!" are likely to confuse non-native speakers of English. (I am a native speaker of English, but I for one can say that if I encountered sentences like that in German/Russian, I would be very confused and might even assume that they were idioms or colloquialisms of some sort.)

If you want to provide verbose explanations or more unlikely interpretations of Toki Pona sentences, I think leaving comments (rather than making English translations) would be a good way of accomplishing that. Contributors here often use comments to add supplemental information to sentences that would not belong in a translation.
