I see. It's hard to me again. :)
(1) is semantically correct, and some Japanese may say it.
However, this expression sounds like literal translation to me. I'm not sure it's the really difference between "Thank you" and "appreciate", but I think we could translate both of them into "ありがとう". So I think I'll say, "(私のために)色々とありがとうございました" in such a situation.
However, as usual, I'm not sure it(ありがとう) matches "appreciate". (2) may be short of words(not enough) and gratitude. @CK, @😇
