>>Do you prefer a series of sentences that differ in only one word

It depends. For a completely new language with difficult grammar, mixing up sentences like "I learnt Berber", "I learnt English", "I learnt French", "He learnt Berber", "He learnt French", "She learnt German", "Ivan learnt Berber", would be my choice to understand the inclination and learn languages' names.

Of course, you sentences are also valuable and useful. Tatoeba is a collection, so it may consist of sentences of different sorts serving different aims. It's not a dictionary, which main purpose is illustrating different meanings of words.

I agree with you and I would like to support name diversity and free creation of sentences, including so-called "near-duplicates".

Here are the reasons: I use sentences from open sources projects to make audio files and text tables. Listening and reading them helps to learn languages without digging into grammar rules. When you learn a word, it's important to learn different forms of it, not only its main form. Introducing "I learnt Berber", "You learnt Berber", "She learnt Berber", etc. helps you understand the basics of grammar of your new language. That's natural for a human and helps to learn proper endings and inclination.

For the name diversity: finding just "Tom" and "Ziri" here and there while reading/listening sentences is just boring.

Thanks a lot!
Where can I get updates with new sentences?

Thanks for the answer, I'll try it, too.

Thanks! Btw, do I need to download the database just once or every time using the library? Unfortunately, I didn't have enough of patience to wait for downloading the database but if it's just one time I can wait.

How can I get more than 1000 sentences unlike using the Tatoeba search? Is there any variable for that in the API? I tried "count=all" or "count=5000", but it didn't help.

Where can I learn more about the 'tatoebatools' library? (I can assume it permits you having and processing all the Tatoeba database on your own computer, right?)

That's exactly what I need, thanks a lot!

Accepting this approach, I must download more than one million English sentences, when I really need about 30,000 right now. I guess the file would be too big to process it.

Plain scrapping from Tatoeba.org using Beautiful Soup looks better than that, but maybe it's possible to scrap the data from its source database without html tags?

Hello, how can I download sentences belonging to a particular user? There is "detailed sentences" option which let indicate user's name but doesn't let to choose it before downloading. Can I change it?

How can I select a language before reviewing the list? There are many languages there.

This sentence in Hungarian appears to be linked to my sentence by me, but I didn't link it cause I don't even understand it:
https://tatoeba.org/en/sentences/show/10580809
Could it be a bug?

For this particular reason (translating sentences directly in Tatoeba without a need to download them for your personal projects ) this link must work perfectly:

https://tatoeba.org/en/sentence...roved=no&user=

If you need to have all sentences that match your criteria at once, you would probably need a customised script.

Please return the option to add original sentences in a given language in Tatominer, not only translations.

I can't add sentences in Tatominer in the way I did it before. For example:
https://tatoeba.org/en/sentence...&sort_reverse=
It seems there isn't a way to add new sentences anymore.

In Russian, the translations should be different:
"I thought perhaps you could help us" - "Я думал, возможно ты сможешь нам помочь"
"I thought that perhaps you could help us" - "Я думал, что возможно ты сможешь нам помочь"
Probably, that also goes for some other languages.

>> It's a mystery to me why he would spend his time with contributions that provide zero value >>
Some people use Tatoeba's sentences for their own projects. I.e. they might need at least an approximate translation to introduce a new English sentence to speakers of another language. Perhaps, the reason is that. For this case, there is a possibility to download the whole Tatoeba database and modify it in any way for someone's personal usage, not affecting Tatoeba itself. I think Tatoeba's owners should provide more information to its users about that.
