As it currently stands, the text of a sentence behaves as a link to that sentence. That does make it easy to navigate to that sentence, since the text essentially acts as a long, clickable link. But I often want to copy and paste words from the sentence into another application, such as an online dictionary or a flashcard utility, and the current behavior makes that difficult. I've found that sometimes I can get around the problem by selecting an area slightly above or below the text I want to copy. This is not so easy. If I'm even slightly off, I end up selecting the entire text, or a neighboring sentence. From my point of view, I would prefer it if there was a simple button next to each sentence to let me select it, which would free the text of the sentence to behave as plain text. What do others think about this?

I button allowing to copy the whole sentence by only one click would be most useful in my eyes.

I just click the sentence: it's easy to go back.

Once I get there, the sentence's not a link anymore.

I made a userscript to fix this:

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/153139

To follow links as usual, use the green or gray arrows to the left of the sentence.

Tested in Chrome. I don't know about other browsers.

Bravo et merci !

Very clever ! I have been in need of this for years !

Thank you!

There a few problems with it (e.g. sentences in lists). I'll release a new version when I find some time to work on it.

How do I run the script (or any other script)? In case the browser I'm using affects the answer: I tend to use Firefox, but I could use Chrome if necessary.

Hmm, from the URL title I guess that it's a Greasemonkey script. I saved it to 153139.user.js, then installed it in Firefox, but I didn't see any difference in behavior: no arrow to the left of the sentence, and the sentence text still behaves as a link.

AlanF_US AlanF_US Nobyembre 28, 2012 Nobyembre 28, 2012 nang 5:19:24 PM UTC link Permakawing

I also tried to install it from Chrome, but that didn't seem to work due to the following error:

Script: [path]\15139user.js
Line: 10
Char: 5
Error: 'document' is undefined
Code: 800A1391
Source: Microsoft JScript runtime error

I'm running on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine.

I got it working in Firefox with the following steps:

1. Install Greasemonkey.
2. Click on the Greasemonkey icon to enable it.
3. Click "install" on the userscript page.
4. Greasemonkey will produce a dialog asking you to confirm the installation. Click Install on this dialog.
(If Greasemonkey does not produce a dialog, click on the Greasemonkey icon again.)

Okay, the script is working. (I was thrown off by the mention of the "green arrow to the left of the sentence", which I couldn't find but now realize is probably the existing one in the translate icon [Japanese hiragana "a" with arrow to Latin "a"].) However, the results are not what I expected. The sentence still turns orange when I hover over it, and when I try to select a single word, the entire sentence is selected. Is it possible to change this behavior?

I'm able to select a single word now. The fact that the sentence turns orange is not a problem.

@FlamingTofu
I had installed/added your user-script (via Greasemonkey. Because of some unwanted consequences, I meanwhile have removed it again. But some former functions of tatoeba were not restored. When I want to add a tag there are no proposals made (during the typing of the tag name) as before, which of course was really useful. Still the sentences in the sentence list are not clickable links. Is there a way to really get rid of these changes? I use Windows 7.

Have you tried temporarily disabling Greasemonkey?

Also try running a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5).

Click on the Greasemonkey icon and uncheck "Enabled"?

Sorry to cause so much trouble :(

freefighter freefighter Disyembre 2, 2012 Disyembre 2, 2012 nang 5:52:02 PM UTC link Permakawing

Well, this might not have anything to do with FlamingTofu's script. It won't work in any other browser for me. IE, FF, Chrome (Script handlers disabled)...

Can other people get this function working as usual? May I have some feedback?
