Should it be "Jim is a master of ..." rather than "Jim is master of ..."
I agree that "Jim is master" sounds wrong.
But I'd go even further and say "Jim mastered..."
マスターしている is a verb.
ETA: I temporarily adopted it to change the translation. I'd still appreciate any native speaker giving it a look-over.

It seems I had a setting in place to only display languages I know. So I had checked those beforehand (and all 3 Japanese sentences fit a lot better now than they did before), but was not aware of the others.
