No, I think they've moved to the front seat now.
I've only ever heard "make out" refer to intense kissing and touching (usually without having sex, i.e. "snogging" in British English, or "rummachen" as in the German translation), but several directly and indirectly linked sentences translate it as "have sex".
To any other confused English speakers who see this sentence, *apparently* "make out" can mean "have sex":

Perhaps the use of "make out" to mean "have sex" was once more common than it is now? I'm curious if other English speakers here have ever heard it used that way.
