*Chaussee

A "Chaussee" is a rather special kind of road, perhaps not a fitting translation to "road". it´s an older word for "highway".

What would you use for "road" now? (there is already a German variant with "Strasse", but I'm looking for a word for the road itself, not including the sidewalk and the buildings on both sides).

i think the word you are looking for would be "landstraße", which would be something at least similar to a "chaussee".

"chaussee" is not only outdated but was as far as i know only used in northern parts of germany. nonetheless i think an "outdated" tag would do it.
