shouldn't it be "at the beginning" instead of "in the beginning"?
Also, "We started using" is somewhat more natural than "We started to use". (native English speaker, General American dialect)
I would say "at the beginning" if it was January 1st (very close to the beginning) and "in the beginning" if it was January 26th (somewhat close to the beginning).
"In the beginning" sounds fine in my dialect.
