This use of 'for fear ...' is old fashioned. A modern near equivalent could be "in case I disturbed you" or "as I was worried I'd disturb you" (See how much nicer the original English is?)
This is the sort of usage that feels right to me - and if we keep one 'for fear' sentence I think it should be this one. ;-)
