2700? Oh my God, were does this number come from. There are at least 6000 to 7000 languages in the world!

Sure it does. But well... it's still a bit non-sensical. One could even say "There are over 2 languages in the world." Well, yes! ;)

Perhaps it spread across the public media. It could be 2,700 if you counted "Arabic" and "Chinese" and "Skandinavian" as one language each and mush remotely similar languages together...
Well, it's not a scientific number. I was just wondering about this surprisingly low number... I'm not asking to change the sentence. :)
