No, "away" wouldn't substitute exactly for "a ways" in this sentence. You could say:

It's quite a ways from here.
It's quite a distance from here.
It's quite far from here.
It's quite far away from here.
It's pretty far away from here.
It's very far away from here.
It's very far from here.
It's pretty far from here.
It's way over yonder.
or even
It's a ways away from here.

Feel free to add any of these that aren't already listed. I'm still figuring out how to run the searches to do a final check.

Culture note: the REM song "Driver 8" includes the line
"We can reach our destination
but it's still a ways away..."

Thanks. I already translated it correctly before. I know its meaning but I wanted to know which one is correct.
"Quite a ways" means "quite far away"
