Le fait que le verbe « être » serve d'auxiliaire ne l'empêche pas du tout de servir de verbe d'état. Cette phrase est parfaitement française et on la retrouve fréquemment dans l'édition française, de manière continue du 19e au 21e siècle...

Il y a une différence de durée entre « être allé » et « avoir été ».
« avoir été » implique un séjour et pas un simple passage.
