congratulations

actually french wins, there are lots of exact duplicates in the italian corpus, so there are less unique sentences in italian

i believe we only have the .org one. we all should be aware of this risk, and improve the general security of sensible data of users

*SECURITY ISSUE*
I'm writing this wall post to point out that boracasli (a well known troll of this website) managed to somehow find out my personal mail through Tatoeba to spam, and this already happened to another user months ago, always by boracasli, and nothing has changed since then (and i remember this other user reported it publicly on the wall), so i just wanted to point out this vulnerability of the website

congratulations for the promotion

i have this issue with this sentence: http://tatoeba.org/ita/sentences/show/2215109

http://tatoeba.org/ita/sentence...rom=und&to=und

i'm sure it has been indexed, i didn't use any punctuation and it doesn't appear as a result

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M06 24 2014 M06 24 09:54:50 UTC link Permalink

i experienced the same issues with some french sentences that i'm sure they've already been indexed, so i guess it's a search engine's issue

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M06 24 2014 M06 24 09:46:57 UTC link Permalink

i have the same issue with some sentences, like: http://tatoeba.org/ita/sentences/show/25657

if search the whole sentence ( http://tatoeba.org/ita/sentence...rom=und&to=und ) i don't get any result, while with the first part of it ( http://tatoeba.org/ita/sentence...rom=und&to=und ) i get it as a result

i noticed that too, and i don't get why his sentences are unapproved, even if it appears he has a good knowledge of those languages, including the unapproval of all the sentences in his own native language

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M05 3 2014 M05 3 15:16:40 UTC link Permalink

indeed. with english i've been really helped by the explanation of certain expressions

> You needn't “give hints” to the idiom or meaning as the translator should understand these themselves.
well, it can't do any harm to "give hints" to the idiom or meaning. in fact, it might help to improve the quality of translations, in my opinion

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M05 1 2014 M05 1 21:53:02 UTC link Permalink

well, yeah, i meant just the case where the user adds translations to improve his/her knowledge, i should have specified

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M05 1 2014 M05 1 21:39:52 UTC link Permalink

+1. my idea is to try adding a translation (if the user wants to), and then a native speaker checks it. if there are some mistakes, the native speaker should post corrections, and if the sentence sounds unnatural, the native speaker should propose an alternative version with the same meaning like he/she would personally say

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M04 29 2014 M04 29 15:06:16 UTC link Permalink

probably it's because there hasn't been a reindexing of the corpus after the new languages have been added

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M04 20 2014 M04 20 19:28:40 UTC link Permalink

it actually has changed

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M04 14 2014 M04 14 21:39:50 UTC link Permalink

well, i don't think it's such a problem if users sometimes add some duplicates by chance, so i don't see the need to rush to delete them because the deduplication script isn't used that often. they'll eventually be merged, so if any user decides to add new translations to them, they'll be added to just one sentence after the merging

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M04 14, edited 2014 M04 14 2014 M04 14 21:32:23 UTC, edited 2014 M04 14 21:33:25 UTC link Permalink

but then, we could even miss new translations by doing that. plus, users might actually learn something with those sentences, so it's far from being a waste of time if they translate them, even if they produce duplicates

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M04 14 2014 M04 14 16:43:58 UTC link Permalink

yes, that's the best thing to do, in my opinion. i find it quite useful to add the possible ways to say a single sentence, if it might change according to the context

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M04 14 2014 M04 14 15:21:41 UTC link Permalink

>Why do you care, if another user delete it or automatical script delete it? What's the difference for you?

The difference is that if native speakers only search for exact duplicates just to delete them, they won't have the time to find mistakes in sentences and post corrections in comments, which, in my opinion, is a more urgent thing to do, rather than removing manually duplicates

Guybrush88 Guybrush88 2014 M04 14 2014 M04 14 11:04:09 UTC link Permalink

ABOUT MANUAL DELETION OF EXACT DUPLICATES

This sentence i added: http://tatoeba.org/ita/sentences/show/3173766
got manually deleted by another CM just because it was an exact duplicate of another existing sentence. This should be stopped, since there's already a script that automatically does that, even if it's not used very often. Please stop deleting manually exact duplicates, since it's already an automated job that doesn't require the imposition from other users to not add certain sentences just because the script isn't frequently used
