No problem at all with questions, that show us there are people interested in Tatoeba :D, yep in the future we would like too, because I have a big anki deck with a lot of example sentences, and an other user too (and maybe others), and as long as the sentences respect copyright law and so, it will be really good to have them in tatoeba too
but to be honnest I don't when we will implement this, in fact if several people send us tab separated files, then it will be implemented sooner :P
but as I've said to an other user, at least for the moment, me and Trang can import them in tatoeba database even if there's no possibility for users yet

In the absolute it's not a problem for me, but maybe then we can put them in a special section, reserved for long text, this way you will not need to worry about the current sentence length limitation and moreover this way people who're looking for long text, will find them easily
what do you think?
and Trang ?

sysko sysko 8 April 2010 8 April 2010 9:22:30 PG UTC link Permalink

500 characters exactly, I think we will need to add this when people add sentences :P

for those who wonder, the wall is now ordered by last reply and should be a bit faster than before :)

sysko sysko 3 April 2010 3 April 2010 8:38:56 PTG UTC link Permalink

why ? we shouldn't trust you ? :p

sysko sysko 31 Mac 2010 31 Mac 2010 10:25:35 PTG UTC link Permalink

cool
it will be updatet soon :p
http://tatoeba.org/fre/wall/show_message/360 when you don't find some sentences, and if you still don't find ask us ;-) you can send to me or Trang a pm

You need to register here, as this is the service we use to manage the translation of tatoeba
https://translations.launchpad..../+translations
and then from there you can translate the interface/ correct mistakes

feel free to ask if you have questions :)

In fact the release will maybe replace romaji by kana, in a first time, and if people prefer to have both, the we will work to have both

sysko sysko 28 Mac 2010 28 Mac 2010 6:49:48 PTG UTC link Permalink

I think as you've said, we haven't so much Japanase native, in a first time "confirm" them is the best solution, with an interface even in "not perfect" Japanese, we're more likely to attract more Japanese, and I think they will report us if they see any mistakes

sysko sysko 27 Mac 2010 27 Mac 2010 11:36:07 PTG UTC link Permalink

ok that's what we've done waiting your answer, so we will keep it :)
so it's highly probable that it will be included in next release

sysko sysko 27 Mac 2010 27 Mac 2010 4:59:56 PTG UTC link Permalink

the output seems to contain only katakana, is there a way to have hirigana ?

sysko sysko 23 Mac 2010 23 Mac 2010 8:52:19 PG UTC link Permalink

one of us has beginning to look into changing kakasi, but we have never used MeCab and so, so maybe if you want, I can give you his mail in order to see how to use/configure mecab ?

sysko sysko 21 Mac 2010 21 Mac 2010 11:14:09 PTG UTC link Permalink

maybe we can imagine a system like wikipedia, comments which are about correction or so will be in a "discussion" page or something like that, and only comments which bring further information about a sentence (for example if there's some important grammar point or if this is a famous quote etc...) will be directly visible from the sentence page

sysko sysko 21 Mac 2010 21 Mac 2010 11:10:11 PG UTC link Permalink

the traditional to simplified chinese is not made at "character by character" level, but try to decompose the sentence (you can see how the sentence has been segmented by looking to pinyin)
As I've said I'm in conctact with the guy who develop it, so don't hesitate to report any bad segmentations, I will report to him

sysko sysko 20 Mac 2010 20 Mac 2010 10:46:37 PTG UTC link Permalink

implemented :)
now chinese sentence have a 汉 picture when it is "simplified" and 漢 when it's traditional moreover in addition of pinyin, the equivalent of the sentence in the other script (in traditional for a simplified sentence) is also displayed

http://tatoeba.org/eng/tools/index

new tools for chinese has also been added :)

it's just a draft, so if there's something missing, or if you say some possible improvement, tell me and i will include them ;-)

sysko sysko 19 Mac 2010 19 Mac 2010 9:45:52 PG UTC link Permalink

random sentences for sure, mysql doesn't like random at all ^^ we're on the way to try to make it faster

sysko sysko 16 Mac 2010 16 Mac 2010 11:38:59 PG UTC link Permalink

We plan to do so, you will have more details and maybe a proof of concet at the beginning of April :)

sysko sysko 13 Mac 2010 13 Mac 2010 7:45:12 PTG UTC link Permalink

no problem, I will add in my looong todo list "handle problem with right to left language"

sysko sysko 13 Mac 2010 13 Mac 2010 4:27:28 PTG UTC link Permalink

I agree to tag them in the future as "old fashioned" "40's english" "book-style" etc... rather than just "modernize"/"oralize" them

sysko sysko 13 Mac 2010 13 Mac 2010 4:11:09 PTG UTC link Permalink

for the spanish, yep I need to contact the guy for a long time, but hmmm never find the motivation to write a email  I will try to do so, I promise
