
Take the english translation with a grain of salt.
The original text is pretty lax in diction, because it included "他们俩", which is foreshortening the proper grammar of saying “他们两个人“.
So the EN translation tried to keep the informality.
打交道 <- means bump into eachother, contact eachother, talk to eachother. It's an umbrella term that categorize a bunch of forms of contact. So similarly, I condensed that idea into "rubbing shoulders".
