Agreed. Indeed, for the meaning "only if," it would probably be better to omit the comma--to indicate that the clause is restrictive. In fact--thinking as I write this--your suggestion seems better and better. Punctuation is to help the reader: no-one will wrongly run "rapid if" together. I'll fix it.
