don't know if you speak English. I do not speak Polish but I do Esperanto and I am told that the Esperanto translation of your sentence is accurate.It seems that you translated from Japanese and it does not match the translation in English. There must be some discrepancy somewhere...
There are direct translations and indirect ones, that is, translations of sentences already translated. As you can see, the litlle arrows on the left are either green (direct translations) or grey (indirect ones). Thus, POL sentence is closest to JAP and ESP, but ENG is not an exact translation of it (them). The discrepancies are inevitable :)
Ok, but in one case somebody walks down a street, an in another he goes through the city, not speaking of "yesterday" and "it was yesterday" (insisting that is was not another day..)
That is a bloody big discrepancy!
On the street thing, 町 can mean town, or a block in a city, or a commercialised area (e.g. ~= high street). It doesn't explicitly mean 'street', but 'street' is often the best word to use when translating sentences using 町.
