What's the context here? To “tell oneself” is usually used for when one is trying to convince oneself of something (e.g. “they tell themselves that everything will be OK”).

Hm, the context is quite unclear in French too : they are thinking about going to some place again on All Saint's Day, but it looks this won't happen for some reason.
A conversation between the two could be : "I guess we won't be able to go there ..."

Maybe check with Guybrush88 whether it's worth changing these sentences to make them a bit clearer.
