You are right. They had a dispute.
They quarreled. They squabbled.
NB. The main error we make is
to translate to French then to English.
But, we often have no other choice
since French is our 2nd language,
if not the 1st one, whatever "they" say.
Our (real Algerian) veterans call it
"notre butin de guerre" ("our spoils of war [?]".
