
I don't know where this belief comes from, but in Serbian, "the worm" [eng] in question, or meitemark [nob] is called "rainworm" (which is common, folk name for earthworm in english, also). I couldn't connected Norwegian name with the rain (instead it is connected with pole fishing, since that is very important subject area for them). It may simply be switching of cause and effect (since they go out when it is raining)...
