I think the English translation is not quite correct.
剛才 refers to something that "just now" or a "moment ago" happened. I think a better a translation would be, "For some reason the microphone didn't work just now."
In the original translation, the term "earlier" is too indefinite and does not specifically bound the time frame to the immediate period.
its also missing the translations for the part after the "," i think the english translation for 剛才我的麥克風沒起作用,不知道為什麼。 should be:
"Just now my microphone didn't work, I don't know why."
i don't know about the other languages. it might be that u want to remove the "不知道為什麼" it its the chinese that is adding the "I don't now why".
不知道为什么 is translated by "for some reasons"
moreover you should consider that the translation is not directed, it means that it could be the Chinese sentence that is the translation from English, it's just "one possible translation"
