In this English sentence, we wouldn't take "got to" to mean "have to", right? It usually means something like "I had the pleasure of knowing him" or "I had the chance to know him." Agree? But never "have to" or "must", right? If so, then the Turkish sentence is incorrect.
By the way, the German sentence means something like: I managed to make his acquaintance.
Is that within the meaning of the English sentence?
@CK "Onunla tanıştım" is what we normally mean when we say "I got to know him."
Perhaps add two more English sentences that convey the sense of "must":
I have got to know him.
I got to get to know him.
I gotta know him. [slang]
