Hi duran,
In Hebrew (obviously it's a loan word from Turkish), "tembel" means "an idiot", a stupid person :)
"Tembel"means "somebody who doesn't want to work."
Thanks, duran.
I just wanted to share with you this curious information about how a Turkish word entered into Hebrew with a slightly different meaning: from "lazy" - to "idiot", "imbecile" :)
We also use "imbecile" as "stupid" in Turkish. But with a slightly different pronunciation as "embesil". We might have taken "tembel" from your language because we have lived together for ages in Turkey. Have you ever been to Turkey? Bye till next time.
Thanks :)
No, still haven't been to Turkey, although I was once offered to go there and visit a high ranking official from my country. Unfortunately, I couldn't seize the opportunity then, and still haven't had the chance to visit your beautiful country.
I hope you can visit in future.
