田舎 means "countryside", not "country".
I also wonder if 雑貨屋 is better translated to "general store" than "grocery".

The problem with using "country" is that it's quite ambiguous. It's not incorrect, but neither is it precise. But as you say, CK, that's not a reason to change the sentence. Just something to mention here in comments.
