Once again I try to stay with a group a little bit bigger.
->
Once again I am trying to stay with a little bit bigger group.

Did you mean:
Once again I am trying to stay with a group a little bit bigger.
?
There is in effect a double "a" that gets merged in the first wording:
with *a* group + *a* little bit bigger -> with *a* little big bigger group
but this is done commonly in standard usage, which is why I chose it. If I were going to choose a different wording, I would go with "with a group *that's* a little bit bigger".
I see. I don't think you'd often hear it worded like this in the UK. It might be because (again) I'm not yet fully awake, but this wording doesn't sound natural to me. What you would hear would be something like your alternative wording:
with a group that's a (little) bit bigger
or, dropping the relative "that":
with a group a (little) bit bigger
which was the original wording.
Another option would be:
with a slightly bigger group
