** Tatoeba update **

In preparation of tomorrow's update, if you have a bit of time, please test the dev website.
https://dev.tatoeba.org

Changes in this update are listed here:
https://github.com/Tatoeba/tatoeba2/milestone/117

Thank you!

On a side note, I am aware the website has been much slower lately. I think this started about two weeks ago, I have no clear idea what is the problem at the moment.

There is an increase of visitors since the beginning of September, which may contribute to the slowness. The slowness may also be due to one or some of the changes that has been introduced in the previous Tatoeba updates. Or due to some technical issue with the server. Or due to the growing amount of data that Tatoeba has to handle. Perhaps a mix of everything.

I'll try to figure out but Tatoeba will probably still be slow for another few weeks, since slowness issues are usually not easy to fix.

The random sentence in the homepage disappeared even if I did not activate the option to hide it

This can happen when the search engine crashes. It normally restarts automatically after a crash so you should see the random sentence again after a few minutes, unless the search engine constantly crashes.

Ah wait, you probably mean the random sentence on the dev website. This is because I disabled the search engine over there.

If the sentence info has to have a separate line, maybe it’s a good idea to place it under the sentence, not above it? It seems like the language and info icons are currently aligned with the sentence itself, and in short sentences they end up at the bottom of the header, which IMO doesn’t look good. I mean this:

I know that “doesn’t look good” is a bad argument, but still I don’t think it was intended to be like this.

The alignment is on purpose. It's made to be consistent with the future changes on the sentences design. I may change a bit the color of the info and increase the font size of the sentence in the comment, haven't really decided yet.

This is still in draft, but to give you an idea:

Aha, I get it now, thanks.

I personally think that grey is really better because it allows the eye to concentrate more on the sentence itself and less on the info. Increasing the font would probably serve the same purpose, but maybe changing the colour is enough.

Just wanted to say that in the morning on Japanese time, so the Europe is sleeping and the U.S. is more or less at night, I don't really have slowness issues (just a little bit, but nothing painful most of the time). So the problem must be somehow related to the heavy activity the website has to endure at rush hour.

Yes, on Saturday night here in the eastern U.S., things seem much faster than they did this morning.
