Which bit makes it American English? The superfluous 'the'?
well, the "game" bit, as I thought "game" was american english while "match" was british english. and yes, "the rain" also sounds superfluous to me.
'on account of' doesn't sound very american to me...
but it does get some hits in this american corpus:

"due to rain" would be more standard, but there's nothing wrong with this version.

Seriously, "football match" beats "football match" by about 2 to 1, but that still means both terms are in common use.
