After a long wait, Tatoeba is back. Please don't hesitate to report issues here on the Wall :)
Thank you for your efforts at saving last sentences (especially created in June).
I think the first problem I encountered is that automatic language detection doesn't seem to work fine.
Yea we have some issues recompiling the language auto-detection tool. It's for the moment not top priority in the things we need to fix, since people can still correct the language if it's wrong, or simply select it before adding a sentence.
We'll probably have to live for a couple of weeks without language detection.
Thanks a lot for your work. Seems that the audio doesn't work. I tried with Safari, Chrome and Firefox. If I remember right it didn't work before in Safari anyway.
Edit:
Also adding sentences to lists doesn't work.
Thank you so much for all the effort that must have gone into bringing Tatoeba back online. I can't express how much I missed it.
I wished we could have brought back Tatoeba earlier though. But at least we brought it back :)
Many thanks to everyone who brought Tatoeba back up again!
The issues I see so far:
(1) My profile lost track of the last language I added, namely Russian. (I'm not sure when I added it.) However, I was able to add it again without a problem.
(2) Although my settings indicate that I would like to have "(native)" displayed next to the usernames of self-identified native speakers, I'm not seeing it.
After I added the previous comment, I only saw the comment after refreshing the page. However, that may be sporadic, since this comment appeared immediately.
I got the same issue of my post appearing only after refreshing the page.
I think this is due to the email notifications not working properly. I'm looking into that at the moment...
Thank you for the work.
1. Looking at the list of sentences tagged @needs native check that I corrected and un-tagged, I saw that some of them reappeared in the list.
I suppose that tags removed / added since February 19 are lost?
When I tried to remove the tag, I got
An Internal Error Has Occurred.
Error: An Internal Error Has Occurred.
and the tag is not removed.
2. It seems also that adopted sentences were rolled back to February?
3. On the blog, it says that sentence up to June were recovered but looking at some people's sentences lists, I couldn't find any sentence added after February. Is it because not all of them were imported yet?
I get the same error message also when trying to remove a sentence, and the sentence isn't removed
> at some people's sentences lists, I couldn't find any sentence added after February
That seems to be true. The last sentence on my list is dated 2017-02-19:
https://tatoeba.org/rus/sentenc.../show/4206/und
1. The deletion of tags has been rolled back to Feb 19. I tried to restore tags that were added after Feb 19, but I didn't restore the deletion of tags (it's more difficult to do that). Therefore if a sentence was tagged @checked before Feb 19, and you removed the tag some time after Feb 19, the tag will still be there today.
2. Yes adopted sentences were rolled back. If you realize there's really a lot of sentences you have adopted that have been rolled back, we can probably make a script to retrieve the information and re-assign you the sentence.
3. I couldn't restore the dates of when sentences were added to list. I could only rebuild the lists. Also, any list that has been created after Feb 19 was set as unlisted.
> but I didn't restore the deletion of tags (it's more difficult to do that).
Do you plan to do that eventually?
> If you realize there's really a lot of sentences you have adopted that have been rolled back, we can probably make a script to retrieve the information and re-assign you the sentence.
We are probably talking about hundreds of sentences so I would greatly appreciate that. However, would re-assigning imply re-correcting? If sentences were corrected before being adopted, would they be corrected?
This leads to my next observation. What about proof-reading? Is there hope for sentences that were corrected after February or do we have to do it all again?
About sentences, I didn't use the correct words, my bad. I was talking about the sentences displayed here: https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/of_user/Aiji
As you can see, the last sentence is Feb 15.
[EDIT] I identified the problem. All sentences impacted by the blackout display a "There is no log for this sentence" as long as nobody act on them.
If we look at https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/of_user/Aiji again, we see two more sentences now because marafon made a comment on one and I edit another.
If we make a search on all sentences owned by Aiji https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentenc...=&sort=created we see that the last created are sentences with no log.
So it looks like sentences with "No log" are not detected by the sentences page but they are by the search engine.
Audio doesn't work ((
Audio has not been restored yet. We'll need a bit more time to make audio available (probably this weekend), as there are a few other more urgent problems to solve :)
I'm glad to hear it!
out of curiosity, were users ratings restored?
Minor bug: all the daily contribution stats (the ones found, for example, here: https://tatoeba.org/ita/contrib...eline/2017/05) from 20/2 to 25/6 have disappeared
Minor thing: Profiles have been rolled back. (but I think we can ignore that :D )
Willing to check the quick start guide page https://en.wiki.tatoeba.org/art...ow/quick-start
I got the Firefox warning that the connection is not secure and the website not configured properly.
new bug: the transcription of Chinese sentences doesn't work anymore
Thank you Trang and the technical team for restoring the website.
I don't think anyone has reported that yet, but the number of the sentences here:
https://tatoeba.org/eng/stats/s...es_by_language
Doesn't correspond to the actual number of sentences. For example, English doesn't have 665,000 sentences, as stated on that page, but more than 700,000 sentences, which can be clearly seen from here:
https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentenc...ne/indifferent
This is true for every fairly active language.
Also, the server is very slow now. Random sentences don't work.
The statistics and random sentences are not a big deal, I care more about the search engine and audio not working, but that has already been reported multiple times.
Also, do you have any idea how much it would cost if tatoeba moved to a better web-hosting with better support? 2 weeks to restore functionality - that's a bit too much, and that's not the first time something like this happened to the site.
I can contribute 10 euros every year, which is probably a drop in the ocean, but we could probably find 100 people like me among our active users.
EDIT. Also, a funny one. As far as I understand, translations under a sentence are sorted in the order according to the 3 letter code of the language.
Because of that Ukrainian sentences would always be somewhere close to the bottom.
However, looking at some sentences now:
https://i.imgur.com/I8FQwxF.png
I think the translations are sorted by the order in which they were added, because normally German, Portuguese, Esperanto, Russian and Turkish translations are above Ukrainian.
Also, as an another example of that, take a look at the Turkish translations for this sentence:
https://i.imgur.com/k0eiAjH.png
Normally, they would stay together.
New bug: Horus stopped working. Seeing "his" contribution log, the last activity was 28 days ago
Another thing: it seems that deleted sentences are back.
For example: https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/show/5818981
And I confirm that sentences that were edited were rolled back to February.
Example: https://tatoeba.org/eng/sentences/show/5836236
Same thing for links and unlinks between sentences.
Is a fix feasible? It looks like the history (logs) of these sentences survived, so I think we could run a script to go through all these logs and apply the modifications that they indicate after February XX.
Such a script may take some time to run but it would save a lot of work that was done during the four months before the blackout.
What do you think?
Sorry for the short outage a moment ago (maintenance page showing up), it was me trying to improve speed on the website. Apparently it's still slow, I will have another look later
The page containing all the comments that is accessible from the main page (this one: https://tatoeba.org/ita/sentence_comments/index) isn't working anymore, I get a message saying that it is disabled because of technical issues
Tags seem to be broken. I was trying to add tags to some sentences, and only got the spinning animation running forever.
Is there any way to avoid a potential following breakdown or for that to save all the data?
