Sorry, did not notice the tag. Should it not be differentiated as a dialect, same as Shanghainese is separated from Mandarin and Cantonese?

I don't know about this particular sentence, but for Shanghainese and Cantonese, there not dialect of mandarin but different languages (though they belong to the same family, and though as they're not the official language of any country, people have the tendency to think so, but for example Shanghainese is as distant from Mandarin than Spanish is from French)

For this kind of distinction, we actually refer on the ISO 639 standard, which is based on works made by the "Ethnologue"

I am not the person to judge, but the difference between the dialect and language seems to be often purely political. Anyway, the example is nice, and explanations helpful. thanks)
