Is there any difference between "in laboratoria" and "nel laboratoria"?

with "in laboratorio" i mean that he's doing scientifical stuff, for example observing cells of a plant inside the lab, with "nel laboratorio" i mean he's doing non-scientifical stuff, for example repairing a broken window inside the lab

Does it mean in both cases, that he is permanently work there, or in the second case it's just a one-time task?

in both cases it's permanent work

Thanks.
Can I ask you a question related to "lavorare nel/in"?
