I encourage people who agree to translate this :-)

why don't we just delete all the sentences without an owner?

That seems way too radical to me. There are plenty of perfectly good unowned sentences. In fact, most of them are good.
And as CK pointed out, some owned sentences aren't very good at all.

>One reason is that there are still quite a few unowned sentences, and at least some of these are better than some of the owned sentences.
if nobody wants them, that tells a lot...
And it's silly not to own sentences when you know they are valid, as recommended by Trang.
I've reviewed ALL unowned french sentences, and 90% are crap. I adopted most of those that were correct.
If you want to get rid of bad sentences, it is much more logical to start getting rid unowned sentences than chasing contributors, as attempting to delete owned sentences does.
We need contributors, not anonymous doubtful sentences.

Well, then obviously the policy is inconsistent between English and other languages, for which unowned sentences mean crap.
Then you can forget about deleting owned sentences, because it is an infringement of their owner's rights.

Btw, this is the relevant Wall post (in French) (http://tatoeba.org/fre/wall/sho...#message_6523)
I disagree that unowned French sentences are all of low quality. As I pointed out, many were perfectly fine: you simply judged them to be redundant or not to your liking.

>I disagree that unowned French sentences are all of low quality.
I said most. And if you don't see it, that's because you are not a good judge of what is a natural sentence in French.
Indeed, there are hundreds of perfectly uninteresting sentences of the type "My name is blah and I was born in blah in 19blah", and you adopted many, for some obscure reason, but many of these are nevertheless ill-written. So, as I suggested earlier, we should destroy all of them and you could easily recreate them by a script with the millions of combinations of names/locations/dates of birth that you like, as you seem to love that kind weir things. Just make sure your script creates them in correct French...
