In Portuguese, the recommendation is to put the euro sign after the amount with a space; if it should be put before, there should be also a space to make the figure readable to those who speak the language. Note that in Spain, for example, people reluctantly put the euro sign after the amount, because this is how it's always been. Recommendations are not rules; each language has its particularities.
