My Grand father was deaf and never used sign language.
Sign Language is better suited for people who are mute, as they can't express themselves through their voice...Not all deaf people are mute, and not all mute people are deaf...

I used my French dictionary to translate "sourd" and it came up as "deaf." I didn't mean to make any sort of statement.

you're translating from French ?!?
But you linked your sentence to the Hungarian sentence...

My bad. I'm new here =) Will note that from now on and change it to link from the French sentence instead. Thanks.

You must first click on the sentence in the language you want to translate from, then, when that sentence is on top of the pile, you may click on the translation button. At that time, other translations are hidden on purpose, to avoid influencing your translation, since on Tatoeba, as in reality, a sentence may have several different translations.
